DSCC-Area Students to Visit National Museum and Historic Sites Free, MoU Signed with Culture Ministry

Staff Reporter

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs have taken a joint initiative to develop patriotism and national consciousness among students through first-hand knowledge of the country's history, heritage, art, culture and Liberation War. To that end, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the two institutions at Nagar Bhaban on Tuesday (3 November).

Under the MoU, students of classes three to ten or equivalent at government and private schools in the DSCC area will be able to visit the Bangladesh National Museum and various archaeological and historic sites in Dhaka free of charge. The first visit programme will begin on 1 January 2027.

At the ceremony, DSCC Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md Abdus Salam said the initiative has created a new opportunity for students to become familiar with the country's history and heritage. He said they want the new generation to grow up as patriotic, humane and culture-minded citizens through the practice of history and culture. He thanked the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the Bangladesh National Museum, the Ministry of Education, the Department of Archaeology and other institutions for responding to the DSCC initiative.

Yasmin Begum, Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, said their main goal is to create opportunities for students to develop creativity, aesthetics and cultural values through real experience beyond textbooks. She said preserving history and heritage and passing it on correctly to the next generation is everyone's collective responsibility.

According to the signed MoU, Dhaka South City Corporation will ensure students' travel, transport and food arrangements. The corporation will also be responsible for students' safety and overall coordination.

The Ministry of Cultural Affairs, through its related institutions, will conduct guided tours, exhibition visits, quizzes, drawing and essay competitions and other educational activities.

In selecting students, priority will be given to students from disadvantaged families and students with special needs.

Initially, the MoU will remain in force for one year from the date of signing, and its term and scope will be extended later through review.

DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md Khaybar Rahman, Bangladesh National Museum Director General Tanzim Ibn Wahab and representatives of various agencies were present at the ceremony.
