Former Chhatra League leader in Narayanganj attends mother's funeral on three-hour parole
Habibur Rahman Habib, a former joint general secretary of the Narayanganj metropolitan unit of Chhatra League, was released on parole for three hours to bid a final farewell to his mother after her death.
On Wednesday night (November 4), he attended his mother's funeral prayer in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj. After the funeral prayer and burial, he was taken back to the district jail under police escort.
Habib's mother was Bilkis Amin, aged 70. She lived in the Nayati Muktinagar area of Ward No. 3 of Narayanganj City Corporation in Siddhirganj and was the wife of the late Ruhul Amin.
Family sources said Bilkis Amin had been suffering from various illnesses for a long time and died at her home at around 8am on Wednesday. Because her son Habib ur Rahman was in jail, the funeral prayer was scheduled at night so that it could be held in his presence.
With the permission of the jail authorities, Habib was released on parole for three hours, from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. After 8pm, his mother's funeral prayer was held in front of the Bottala Central Jame Mosque in Siddhirganj. After the prayer and burial, he was returned to jail under police security.
Siddhirganj police inspector (investigation) Md Mojibur Rahman said there was adequate police security around the funeral, and that Habib was taken back to jail once the funeral prayer and burial were over.
Narayanganj district jail superintendent Abdul Quddus said prisoner Habibur Rahman had been released on parole from 5:30pm to 8:30pm to attend his mother's funeral and was brought back to jail after the prayer and burial. He said Habib is imprisoned in an anti-discrimination case.
