Manchester City twice lost the lead in Germany before finally returning with a win in the Champions League. Erling Haaland's goal gave Enzo Maresca's side a 3-2 victory over RB Leipzig, a result that lifted City into the top eight of the league-phase standings.

Maresca made four changes to the side after the home defeat to Brighton. Ruben Dias was left on the bench and the captain's armband was given to Haaland.

City had 65 percent of the possession, but Leipzig took more shots at goal, 14 to City's 12. Throughout the match, Antonio Nusa and David Raum kept City's defence under pressure down the left side.

City went ahead in the 37th minute through an own goal, when Leipzig's Castello Lukeba turned the ball into his own net while trying to deal with a cross from Nico O'Reilly.

The hosts equalised early in the second half. In the 49th minute, Brazan Gruda beat City's Elliot Anderson and played the ball to Ridle Baku, whose shot went in at goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma's near post.

Enzo Fernandez put City ahead again in the 58th minute, heading in a cross from Iliman Ndiaye. Leipzig equalised again just three minutes later, when substitute Christopher Nkunku's chipped pass was finished by Nusa.

Haaland finally scored the winning goal in the 78th minute, sliding in to turn Anderson's low cross into the net. It was his 13th goal in his last nine matches against Leipzig.

The win left Manchester City on nine points and in seventh place in the Champions League standings at the end of the match. Leipzig, on three points, stood 29th.
