Devotee Hacked to Death Inside Shrine Room in Munshiganj, Police Hunting the Accused

A devotee staying in a room of a shrine in Charkewar Union of Munshiganj Sadar upazila has been hacked to death with a sharp weapon. The victim, Jahed Bepari (50), was a day labourer. He died late on Wednesday night while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Police and eyewitnesses said Jahed Bepari was a devotee of the shrine. On Wednesday night he was staying in a room of the shrine of Hazrat Dayal Baba Ruhul Amin Shah, beside his home. At that time, Farid Bepari, from the same area, entered the room and struck him repeatedly and indiscriminately with a sharp weapon, leaving him seriously injured.
Local people rescued Jahed Bepari and took him to the 250-bed Munshiganj General Hospital. When his condition deteriorated there, he was quickly sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment, where he died late at night at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The victim's eldest daughter, Faria Akter, said her father often slept at the shrine as it stood beside their home. She alleged that Farid Bepari entered the shrine in a planned attack and hacked her father to death, and that her father himself said so before he died. She demanded the killer's arrest and the maximum punishment.
Taslim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Munshiganj Sadar police station, said police were sent to the scene as soon as the incident was reported, and an operation is already under way to arrest Farid Bepari for his involvement in the killing.
The OC added that the accused, Farid Bepari, already faces several cases, including murder and narcotics cases. Police initially suspect the killing may stem from a previous enmity.
