Bangladesh's capital Dhaka ranks fifth on the global list of cities with polluted air. The information came from the index of air-quality monitoring organisation IQAir at 10:50am on Thursday (5 November).

Dhaka's Air Quality Index (AQI) score that day was 174. Air at this level is considered 'unhealthy'.

At the top of the global list is Pakistan's city of Lahore. India's capital New Delhi is in second place. Dhaka stands fifth on that same list.

Under the AQI scale, a score from zero to 50 means air quality is good. A score of 51 to 100 is considered moderate.

A score of 101 to 150 is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups. A score of 151 to 200 is unhealthy for everyone, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, and a score above 301 indicates hazardous air. By that measure, Dhaka's score of 174 falls within the 'unhealthy' range.
