China's Former Politburo Member Ma Xingrui Indicted on Bribery Charges

Government prosecutors in China have filed an indictment against Ma Xingrui (67), a former member of the ruling Communist Party's Politburo, on charges of taking bribes. The information was reported citing state media.
Ma Xingrui was arrested on the direction of China's Supreme People's Procuratorate. The Xinhua news agency said the case has been transferred to the Yichang People's Procuratorate in the central province of Hubei.
Ma Xingrui had served as a member of the Politburo since 2022. He was also a deputy head of the Communist Party Central Committee's leading group on rural affairs.
Ma Xingrui was among 33 officials dismissed from the ruling party last month. The ruling party had announced an investigation against him in July.
The indictment says Ma Xingrui used the influence of his various former positions and power to secure benefits for others and, in return, illegally accepted a huge amount of money and valuable items.
