Bangladesh and China have reaffirmed their pledge to take relations to a new height, with the aim of building a 'Bangladesh-China community with a shared future' in a new era.

The two sides reaffirmed the pledge on Thursday (5 November) at a breakfast meeting at the State Guest House Padma between State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir and Liu Haixing, head of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC).

At the meeting, representatives of the two countries expressed their determination to take bilateral relations to a new height. To that end, they discussed strengthening political and party-level communication, trade, investment, connectivity and development cooperation.

Both sides recalled the long-standing friendly relations between Bangladesh and China. They also expressed satisfaction with the achievements and outcomes of the Bangladesh prime minister's visit to China in June 2026.

Liu Haixing recalled the contribution of his father Liu Shuqing, a former Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh. He mentioned his father's role in strengthening Bangladesh-China relations.

Highlighting the important role of the IDCPC in China's foreign policy, Liu Haixing said his office would work tirelessly to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

At the meeting, Humayun Kabir sought China's continued cooperation in playing an effective role with Myanmar for the quick and safe repatriation of the Rohingya.

Liu Haixing visited Bangladesh from 3 to 5 November. He was scheduled to leave Dhaka after 12 noon on Thursday.
