National Parliament Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Bir Bikram has said that alongside diplomatic ties, the economic and strategic relationship between Bangladesh and the United States has also developed over time.

He said the United States is Bangladesh’s single largest export destination, and that new areas of trade and investment need to be created to take the existing relationship further.

The Speaker made the remarks on Thursday (5 November) at the inauguration of the 30th US Trade Show, organised by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh at Hotel InterContinental in the capital.

Hafiz Uddin Ahmad said the 30th US Trade Show is an important event for bilateral commercial relations between Bangladesh and the United States. For three decades, the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh has been playing a role in expanding trade and investment between the two countries.

He said such events help increase contact between businesspeople and investors and highlight new business possibilities.

He said this year’s exhibition features innovative products and ideas from sectors including health technology, power and energy, information technology and the digital economy, banking and financial services, manufacturing, education and agribusiness. New opportunities for trade and investment between the two countries could be created in these sectors, he added.

Seeking cooperation from US companies to resolve Bangladesh’s energy crisis, the Speaker said US companies could come forward for oil and gas exploration in the country’s coastal areas and the Bay of Bengal. Their investment and technological cooperation could be important for Bangladesh, he said.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintu, US Ambassador to Dhaka Brent T. Christensen and American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh President Syed Kamal Hossain were present at the event.

The Speaker later formally inaugurated the 30th US Trade Show 2026. The three-day exhibition, aimed at expanding trade and business relations between Bangladesh and the United States, runs from 5 to 7 November at Hotel InterContinental.
