Jamaat Protests Price Hikes With Pots and Pans in North Badda, Demands Market Syndicate Be Broken

The Dhaka Metropolitan North unit of Jamaat-e-Islami held a protest procession and rally in the capital carrying pots and pans, in protest against the repeated increases in fuel, gas and electricity prices and the rising prices of daily necessities. The procession and rally took place on Thursday (November 5) afternoon at North Badda in the capital.
Several thousand leaders and activists of the party joined the rally. Women took part in the procession and rally carrying pots and pans and festoons about LPG gas.
The rally was presided over by Mohammad Selim Uddin, member of Jamaat's central executive council and amir of Dhaka Metropolitan North. He said there is no consistency between people's income and the rise in commodity prices. Fuel oil and electricity prices are rising again and again, but people's income is not rising at that rate.
Calling on the government to break the market syndicate, Selim Uddin said the supply of daily necessities to the people at fair prices must be ensured. The balloon of development cannot be flown while keeping the people in an existential crisis and insecurity, he said.
The Jamaat leader also called on the government to find out who is trying to carry out vandalism and sabotage in the ongoing workers' movement.
Saying the government had begun division by not implementing the people's verdict of the referendum, the Dhaka Metropolitan North amir said that in the post-mass-uprising period the government should have worked in unity, taking everyone along, but it is not doing so. They will have to bear the consequences, he commented.
After the rally, a protest procession was brought out. The procession ended in front of the Badda U-loop after covering important roads.
Also speaking at the rally were Atiqur Rahman, central president of the Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Federation, Mahfuzur Rahman, member of Jamaat's central working committee, Yasin Arafat, member of the central Majlish-e-Shura, and Ataur Rahman Sarkar, publicity and media secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan North, among others.
