The Indian High Commission in Dhaka has imposed a new obligation on Indian visa applicants. From now on, submitting a 'Visa Undertaking Form' in the prescribed format is mandatory for all types of visa applications.

The information was given in an urgent advisory on the High Commission's visa portal on Thursday (5 November).

The advisory said that, under the instruction of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, submitting the visa undertaking form in the prescribed format has been made mandatory for all visa applicants.

The 'Visa Undertaking Form' must be downloaded in the prescribed format from the link provided by the High Commission. The form must be filled in correctly. The completed form must be scanned and uploaded with the online visa application on the NIC Visa Application Portal.

The authorities also said applicants must use only the prescribed format of the form. If a form is submitted in any other format, the application will not be acceptable.

The High Commission said the new step has been taken to make the visa application process more transparent and orderly. Indian visa seekers have been advised to download the form from the prescribed link and complete the application process quickly.

Under the published one-page 'Visa Undertaking Form', the applicant must first write their name and undertake that they will travel to India only for the purpose for which they have applied for the visa. They must also declare that on the date of application they are residing within the jurisdiction of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka and that all the information they have given is correct.

In section 1, Personal Details, five pieces of information must be filled in mandatorily. These are the name as in the passport, passport number, nationality, date of birth and current address in Dhaka.

In section 2, the purpose of the visit to India must be written clearly, such as tourism, business, medical treatment, conference and so on.

Sections 3 to 5 contain mainly three undertakings. The applicant must undertake that they will return to their own country as soon as the trip ends and will not stay in India beyond the visa's validity under any circumstances. While in India, they will obey all Indian laws, rules and culture and will not engage in any unlawful activity. The form also states that violating any law may lead to visa cancellation and harm future eligibility for a visa.

Finally, the applicant must complete the form with a signature and the place and date. For minor applicants, both parents must sign, according to the instruction in the form.
