A 90-year-old woman who was shot during the attack on a Hanukkah festival at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, has died in hospital. She had been in and out of hospital since she was shot on 14 December last year.

A senior Jewish community source said on Friday that the woman had recently returned to hospital after developing an infection. She died there after having a stroke.

According to the source, her funeral was scheduled to take place on Monday. A family spokesperson requested privacy during this difficult time.

A total of 15 people were killed when gunmen opened fire at the Hanukkah festival at Bondi Beach on 14 December. Forty people were injured in the attack.

The attackers were identified as 24-year-old Naveed Akram and his father, 50-year-old Sajid Akram. Sajid was shot dead by police at the scene.

Naveed Akram has been charged with 78 offences, including 15 counts of murder and one count of committing a terrorist act. Investigators allege the attack may have been inspired by Isis.

Naveed Akram remains before the courts.
