A bagar catfish weighing 14 kilograms has been caught in the net of fisher Chunnu in the Padma River in Rajbari. The price of the fish had been set at 15 thousand taka.

The fish was caught at dawn on Friday (November 6) in the Padma River at Dhawapara in Rajbari Sadar Upazila.

Chunnu said that around 10pm on Thursday night he went fishing in the Padma River in Rajbari Sadar Upazila with his companions. They cast their net in the river and waited. Suddenly, when he felt a pull on the net, he realised a big fish had been caught. As he hauled in the net, he saw a huge bagar. "It really feels very good to get such a big fish," he said.

Local fishers say fish have declined in the river anyway, and such a big fish does not get caught in nets all the time. In their words, only when luck is good can such a fish be found.

Jilal Mondal, a fish trader in Rajbari Sadar Upazila, said that when the fish was brought to his wholesale depot on Friday morning, he bought it from Chunnu through auction at 1,050 taka per kilogram. He later sold the fish keeping a small profit per kilogram.
