An accused in a fraud case has been snatched from police custody after an attack on officers in Sonatala, Bogura. A police pickup van was vandalised during the attack, and three police members, including an officer, were injured.

The incident took place at around 11am on Friday (6 November) in Fulbaria village of Sonatala upazila. Four women have been detained on allegations of involvement in the incident.

Sonatala police station officer-in-charge (OC) Kabir Hossain confirmed the incident. Police have filed a case at the station as the plaintiff.

Police and local sources said Golam Kabir Sumon (36), of Fulbaria village, had a court arrest warrant against him in a fraud case. At around 11am on Friday, Sonatala police SI Shimul Kumar Das and ASI Mehedi Hasan went to Fulbaria village in a pickup van to arrest him.

As the officers were putting Golam Kabir Sumon into the vehicle after detaining him, local people attacked them. The officers were beaten and Sumon was snatched from their custody. The attackers also vandalised the pickup van.

On receiving the news, additional police from the station reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The three injured police members were rescued and taken to the Sonatala Upazila Health Complex.

OC Kabir Hossain said the accused's people created a 'mob' when police went to arrest the warrant-listed accused. Three police members, including an officer, were injured in the beating. The situation was later brought back to normal. SI Shimul Kumar Das filed the case as plaintiff, and four women have been detained, he said.
