Petrol thrown at standing Baishakhi Paribahan bus in Badda's Natun Bazar, police suspect activists of banned party

Miscreants have set fire to a Baishakhi Paribahan bus in the Natun Bazar area of Badda in the capital. The fire broke out at 5:47pm on Friday (November 6) on the bus, which was standing opposite the Coca-Cola Gate. Police suspect that leaders and activists of a political organisation whose activities are banned carried out the arson.
Police said the bus had been stopped opposite the Coca-Cola Gate while its helper had gone to the toilet. The driver was standing with the bus. At that time, miscreants approached from behind, threw petrol from a bottle and set the bus on fire. The bus was burnt in the blaze.
There were no passengers on the bus when the fire broke out. As a result, there were no casualties in the incident.
On receiving the news, two units from Baridhara Fire Station went to the spot and brought the fire under control. Because of the fire, traffic on one side of the road was stopped. After the fire was extinguished, the situation returned to normal.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Al Amin Hossain of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Badda Zone said it is suspected that leaders and activists of a political party whose activities are banned carried out the arson. The burnt bus has been removed from the spot.
ADC Al Amin Hossain also said the situation is currently normal and traffic has resumed.
He said efforts are under way to identify and arrest those involved by analysing CCTV footage from the spot and its surroundings.
