In Kamarkhand, Tuku Says Awami League Has Gone Underground and Will Not Return
Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku has said the banned Awami League has gone underground and will not return to the country.
He made the remarks on Friday (6 November) after offering Jumu'ah prayers at the Upazila Central Jame Mosque during a brief visit to Kamarkhand in Sirajganj.
Tuku said Sheikh Hasina did no work for the country and only built bridges and flyovers. He commented that she emptied Bangladesh Bank's money while claiming to have done the work with her own funds.
He said the previous government did not even build the Dhaka-Mymensingh power line. The current government did it in 10 months after coming to office, and load-shedding in Mymensingh has now decreased.
The power minister said they were elected and became ministers by the people's vote, and this government is the people's government. The road from Kadda to Jamtoil will be widened—its tender is done, and work will start quickly once the tender is dropped, he said.
On fuel, the minister said the country's situation must be understood. War is under way where oil, gas and petrol come from, so a fuel crisis has begun worldwide. Even amid this crisis, the government is buying gas from abroad at higher prices to keep the country's electricity supply intact.
He said if all the money is spent there, how will social projects such as roads, family cards and school development be done? He also commented that this difficult situation cannot be crossed without the people's cooperation.
On electricity, Tuku said they have found an easy method—generating power from the sun. He sought cooperation to install solar in every home, saying it will keep electricity bills low and remove hassles over prepaid meters. The government will cooperate where people produce and use their own electricity, he said.
