An 18-day sewing training programme has been completed in Shayestaganj, Habiganj, with the participation of 30 unemployed men and women. They joined the training hoping to free themselves from unemployment, create self-employment and become financially self-reliant. The programme was held under the theme 'Let skills be the tool of employment, let training be the new path to a self-reliant life.'

The closing ceremony was held on Thursday (5 November) on the premises of Shayestaganj Girls' High School. The programme was organised by the Upazila Youth Development Office.

At the ceremony, trainer Md Ahsan Al Mamun was honoured with a crest for his important role in helping the trainees acquire skills.

According to sources involved with the training, over the 18 days the participants received hands-on instruction in various aspects of sewing. Through it, they have gained skills suitable for creating their own employment by doing sewing work.

Certificates and honours will be distributed among the participants at the end of the training, it was announced. Those involved hope that the skills gained by these 30 men and women will not remain limited to earning a certificate, but will create employment and income opportunities in real life.

The most encouraging aspect is that with the certificate received after the training, the trainees will be able to obtain bank loans at low cost. Using that loan money, they will be able to start sewing work at their own homes. Alongside that, making clothes and doing sewing work for people in the area will open a path to regular income.

According to those involved, in the present time it is extremely important to create one's own employment by acquiring technical skills rather than chasing after jobs. From that consideration, such training programmes of the Department of Youth Development can play a positive role in removing unemployment, creating skilled manpower and building a self-reliant society.

They also believe that if proper support, access to loans on easy terms and correct application of the acquired skills can be ensured, this initiative can bring solvency back into the lives of many unemployed people.
