Los Angeles Rams safety Quentin Lake has apologized to Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert. After commenting on Herbert's play on a podcast, Lake sent him an apology by text message.

Lake appeared as a guest on the "St. Brown Podcast," hosted by Detroit Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and his brother Equanimeous St. Brown. On the show, he spoke about an interception he made against the Chargers on Sunday.

Talking about that interception, Lake was sharply critical of Herbert's play. He said, "He was throwing deli meat out there. He's seeing ghosts. I don't know what's going on, but we knew we were gonna get a couple. At least one."

The Chargers are playing this season with a 0-7 record so far. And Herbert leads the league in interceptions this season, with 10.

According to The Los Angeles Times, Lake sent an apology to Herbert over text message, but had not heard back.

Lake said, "I don't know if he read it. He probably says, 'I don't care about it anymore. I'm not trying to see this. It doesn't matter. You said what you said.' But at the same time I felt like it was right for me to at least say, 'Hey, man, I didn't mean it in any disrespectful way.'"

The report also noted that NFL legend Michael Irvin sharply criticised Herbert after the Chargers' loss.

Although the off-field remarks sparked debate, the discussion now centres on Lake's apology. Lake said he has still received no reply from Herbert.
