Kolkata civic polls stayed over ward delimitation; no notification until single bench rules, says High Court

Staff Reporter

The High Court has directed that the notification for the Kolkata municipal polls be kept on hold, as questions have been raised over the ward delimitation process. The notification cannot be issued until a single bench delivers its verdict on the matter.

Questions had been raised about the method used for the delimitation of wards in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. The High Court has directed that the stay on issuing the election notification will remain in force until that question is settled.

Under the High Court's direction, the notification for the Kolkata civic polls cannot be issued until the single bench rules on the ward delimitation issue.

Whether and when the notification for the Kolkata civic polls is issued now depends on the further progress of the case over ward delimitation and the verdict of the single bench.
