Arson and cocktail explosions struck two parts of the country between Friday night and early Saturday morning. Miscreants set fire to a bus carrying garment workers in Saturia, Manikganj, in the dead of night, while at least eight cocktails exploded in different areas of the capital, Dhaka, in a single night.

The Manikganj incident took place at around 1:15am on Friday night. Miscreants set fire to a Palliseba Paribahan bus in the Janna area of Fukruhati union in Saturia upazila. Most of the bus was burnt in the fire. No casualties were reported in the incident.

The bus was used to ferry workers of a garment factory. As there were no passengers on board at night, a major tragedy was averted.

On receiving the news, firefighters from the Saturia Fire Service and Civil Defence station reached the spot and brought the fire under control. Warehouse inspector Mojibur Rahman of the station said most of the bus had been burnt, but there were no casualties.

The cause of the fire and who was behind it were not immediately known. Local residents suspect the bus may have been set on fire to create political unrest, but no political party's involvement in the incident has been confirmed.

Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, officer-in-charge of Saturia police station, said police had been sent to the scene and necessary legal action would be taken.

Explosions also took place in the capital, Dhaka, the same night. At least eight cocktails exploded in different areas of the city between Friday evening and late at night.

The explosions took place in Adabar, Shahbagh, Khilgaon, the Airport area and Kalshi in Mirpur. So many cocktail explosions in one night spread panic among residents.

The bus arson in Manikganj and the cocktail explosions in Dhaka both happened on the night before National Revolution and Solidarity Day. Police are investigating the Manikganj incident.

It is not yet known who was behind the bus fire and the cocktail explosions. More details will emerge once the police investigation is complete.
