No case filed at any of Mirpur's seven police stations over alleged beating of Rita Rani, DMP says

No case or complaint has been filed at Mirpur Model Police Station over the alleged beating of a woman named Srimoyee Rita Rani, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has said.
The information was given in a press release signed by Deputy Police Commissioner Md Akter Hossain on behalf of the DMP's Media and Public Relations Division.
According to the release, a photo carrying an allegation that Rita Rani was beaten by one Firoz, a former convener of the Mirpur Thana Swechchhasebak Dal, was recently circulated widely on Facebook.
Former Chhatra League leader S.M. Zakir posted the photo on his Facebook account and claimed that although a complaint was made at Mirpur Model Police Station over the incident, police did not take a case.
The DMP's Mirpur Division reviewed the matter with importance. In an initial inquiry, no information was found of any such complaint or case being filed at any of the seven police stations under the Mirpur Division.
Police said no information was found either that any woman named Srimoyee Rita Rani had appeared at any police station in the Mirpur Division to lodge a complaint.
Police said an inquiry is continuing to verify the photo and allegation circulated on social media and to confirm the identity of the person concerned. However, her specific identity and address have not yet been identified.
To prevent rumours, the DMP requested everyone concerned not to circulate baseless allegations against the police without any verification.
At the same time, anyone who knows Srimoyee Rita Rani, or has reliable information about her identity, whereabouts or the incident, has been specially requested to inform the officer-in-charge of Mirpur Model Police Station or the deputy police commissioner of the DMP's Mirpur Division.
The release also said the DMP is always committed to protecting public safety and law and order.
