Dakhil scholarship students to study free, money to go straight to bank accounts
Students who have won merit and general scholarships in the Dakhil examination will get the opportunity to study without paying tuition fees. Their scholarship money will be sent directly to their bank accounts. For this, scholarship-winning students must submit their bank account numbers to their respective educational institutions within the next seven days.
The Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board recently published the list of scholarship-winning students on the basis of this year’s Dakhil examination results.
A notice signed by the board’s registrar, Professor S M Tauhiduzzaman, said merit scholarships have been awarded to regular students who secured GPA-5 among those who passed the Dakhil examination. General scholarships, on the other hand, have been awarded in line with the policy. The minimum eligibility for a scholarship has been fixed at GPA-3, excluding the fourth subject. In distributing scholarships, 50 percent each has been allocated for boys and girls. And the ratio of distribution between the science and general streams is 3:2.
To keep the scholarship after receiving it, students must maintain regular attendance, good conduct and satisfactory academic progress. Only students who took part in the regular examination and passed will receive it. Irregular students will not be considered. The scholarship will also apply only to students studying at government-approved institutions.
The notice said no approved institution may charge monthly tuition fees from merit or general scholarship-winning students. All of them will get the opportunity to study free of charge. If any institution demands monthly fees from scholarship-winning students, disciplinary action will be taken against the institution concerned. Students will receive the scholarship money in a lump sum each year, according to the duration of the course they are studying.
The scholarship money will be sent directly to students’ bank accounts through the G2P system by electronic fund transfer (EFT). For this, students must open an account at a scheduled bank in Bangladesh that offers online banking facilities. They must then submit that account number within seven days to the institution where they have been admitted.
If any scholarship-winning student moves from one institution to another, the heads of both the previous and the new institution must inform the Directorate of Madrasa Education. Students enrolled at more than one institution will not be able to withdraw the scholarship money. However, a break in studies of up to one year will be acceptable in cases of late admission, a change of institution or subject, and illness. In such cases, conditions apply for regularising the scholarship.
The notice also said the government may change or cancel the number, rate and duration of scholarships if needed. Likewise, the board reserves the right to correct any errors and to cancel a scholarship if necessary.
The scholarship money will be paid from the scholarship and merit scholarship head of the revenue budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
