Responsibility is a sacred trust, not social status, says Jamaat leader Hamidur Rahman Azad

Staff Reporter

Responsibility is not a matter of social status or personal honour; it is an important trust, said Dr A H M Hamidur Rahman Azad, a member of the central executive council and assistant secretary general of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

He made the remark on Saturday (7 November) morning while speaking as chief guest at a gathering of responsible workers in the BIA hall of the Jamaat office at Dewanbazar in Chattogram city, organised on the occasion of the oath-taking of Muhammad Ala Uddin Sikdar, the newly elected ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Chattogram North district for the 2027–2028 session.

He said every responsible worker must perform their duties with sincerity, honesty and a sense of accountability.

Azad said people must stand by one another through sincerity, love and a sense of responsibility, not through artificial or formal cooperation.

To bring dynamism to organisational work, every responsible worker must increase their spiritual strength and devotion, he said, adding that when spiritual strength is firm, work is blessed and organisational activities become more fruitful.

He stressed keeping the organisation’s internal environment beautiful and well-organised, building a mass base at the grassroots, and expanding the scope of social work.

The programme was presided over by Muhammad Ala Uddin Sikdar. The special guest was the party’s central assistant secretary general and Chattogram region director Muhammad Shahjahan, who administered the oath to the newly elected district ameer.

Shahjahan said Jamaat-e-Islami will make no compromise on questions of morality, ideological position and organisational discipline. Obedience to leadership, mutual trust and organisational discipline are essential to keeping the organisation’s progress going, he said.

He added that the organisational field of Chattogram North district is a field soaked in the blood of martyrs, and that responsible workers must work with sacrifice, sincerity and tireless effort to establish the victory of the faith.

In his presidential speech, Sikdar said the ameer’s responsibility is not a matter of personal rank or honour; it is a grave responsibility and a trust. He said he needs the help of Almighty Allah and everyone’s sincere cooperation to perform it properly.

He said he would try to make the organisation’s work more dynamic, taking along the manpower of the Chattogram North district at every level, on the basis of mutual respect, organisational discipline, unity and cooperation.

The programme was conducted by district secretary Abdul Jabbar. Also present were central Majlis-e-Shura member and Chattogram region team member Muhammad Zafar Sadeq, Chattogram city assistant secretary Muhammad Ullah, Chattogram North district assistant secretary Professor Fazlul Karim, organisational secretary Anwar Siddique Chowdhury, and district- and thana-level leaders.

It may be noted that on 4 November, at a meeting of the central executive council at the party’s central office in Moghbazar, the party’s ameer and opposition leader Dr Shafiqur Rahman announced the names of the district ameers elected for the 2027–2028 session. Sikdar was re-elected ameer of the Chattogram North district through a secret ballot of the rukns.
