Sand Truck Stuck on Railway Tracks, Gateman's Red Flag Saves Silk City Express
A Silk City Express train narrowly escaped a collision with a sand-laden truck stuck on the railway tracks at Kalihati in Tangail. The quick action of the gateman saved the lives of thousands of passengers on the train.
The incident happened at around 11:15 am on Saturday (November 7) at the Salla bus stand level crossing in Kalihati upazila.
Locals said the sand-laden truck, which had come across the Jamuna Bridge, was going to unload sand in the Salla bus stand area. While crossing the railway line, the axle of the truck's front wheel suddenly broke, and the truck got stuck on the crossing.
At that very moment, the Silk City Express, travelling from North Bengal towards Dhaka, was coming along that route.
Seeing this, gateman Mizan wasted no time. With the help of locals, he moved forward and waved a red flag to stop the train. His prompt action saved the train from a major accident.
Later, an attempt was made to pull the stuck truck away with another truck, but it did not work.
Eventually, an excavator that was working nearby digging soil was brought in, and the truck was pushed off the railway line.
Salla bus stand gateman Mizan said the train left for Dhaka at around 12 noon.
The railway line suffered no damage in the incident. After the truck was removed, the train began its journey towards Dhaka.
