A man lowered the German flag from the stand designated for the national flag in front of the Reichstag parliament building in Berlin, the capital of Germany, and raised the Palestinian flag there. Police have detained three people over the incident.

On Sunday (8 November), the man climbed onto the flag stand and took down the German national flag. He then raised the Palestinian flag in its place.

Two other men helped him from below and filmed the incident. Police said all three of those detained are German citizens. However, police said none of them has a migration background.

After the flag was raised, firefighters arrived and took the Palestinian flag down.

Supporters of the pro-Palestine organisation Peacefully Against Genocide raised the flag. The organisation says it carried out the action to show solidarity with the people of Palestine.

More than a hundred protesters took part in the protest rally in Berlin that day. The rally was peaceful.

A Bangladeshi-German citizen who was present at the rally as a spectator, and who did not want to be named, said the flag had been raised mainly to express solidarity with the Palestinians. Firefighters later came and removed the flag.
