A woman doctor, Nabila Nusrat (32), was killed in a road accident while visiting the tourist town of Kuakata. The accident happened around 6pm on Saturday (7 November), when an engine-run tourist van overturned on the way to the Mishripapa Buddhist temple area in Kuakata.

Nabila Nusrat worked at Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital. She had joined service as a doctor through the 42nd BCS examination.

She was on her way to see the Mishripapa Buddhist Bihar when the accident happened. A cat came under the wheel of the van, the driver lost control, and the van overturned in a moment.

The two doctors in the van and two other tourists were thrown out and injured. One of the injured, Dr Mainul Islam Shuvo, works at Bangladesh Medical University. He introduced himself as the dead woman's husband.

In the accident, Nabila Nusrat's head was trapped under the van.

Local people rescued her in a critical condition and first took her to Tulatuli Hospital. From there she was taken to Kalapara Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared her dead after examination.

A doctor at Kalapara Upazila Health Complex said she was declared dead after an ECG at the hospital, but doctors suspect she may have died at the accident spot itself.

Dr Mainul Islam Shuvo said the two of them had come from Dhaka to Kuakata on Friday for a visit and were staying at the Ocean View Hotel. On Saturday afternoon, they were going in the engine-run van to see the Mishripapa Buddhist Bihar.

Ilias Talukder, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Kalapara Police Station, said police went to the hospital after hearing about the accident.

He said the person with the dead woman had introduced himself as her husband, and police would take further legal steps after verifying the matter.
