The Bangladesh Embassy in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, has celebrated National Revolution and Solidarity Day with due dignity and solemnity. Members of the expatriate Bangladeshi community living in Denmark and officials and staff of the embassy took part in the programme held on the embassy premises on Saturday (7 November).

At the start of the programme, Bangladesh's Ambassador to Denmark, Dr Zokey Ahad, hoisted the national flag of Bangladesh on the embassy premises in the presence of members of the expatriate Bangladeshi community. The programme then began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by the reading of messages from the President and the Prime Minister on the occasion of National Revolution and Solidarity Day. A documentary was also screened to highlight the historical background and significance of the day.

Speakers at the event included Gazi Monir Ahmed, president of the BNP's Denmark branch and a member of its central executive committee, general secretary Omar Faruk, organising secretary Kazi Shahjahan, law affairs secretary Golam Sarwar, women's affairs secretary Sonia Sarwar, student affairs secretary agriculturist Badiuzzaman Sheikh Mamun and Mashiur Rahman Sohel. In their remarks, they spoke about the historical background of National Revolution and Solidarity Day, its significance in Bangladesh's national history, and the importance of national unity and solidarity.

In his address, Ambassador Dr Zokey Ahad greeted everyone present on National Revolution and Solidarity Day. He highlighted the significance of the day in the continuity of Bangladesh's history, independence and sovereignty.

The ambassador said geographical distance cannot separate expatriate Bangladeshis from their motherland. Holding on to Bangladesh's history, heritage, culture and national values while living abroad, and passing them on to future generations, is everyone's responsibility, he said. He called on all to contribute together to Bangladesh's progress while embracing patriotism and the spirit of national unity and solidarity.

The spontaneous presence and sincere participation of expatriate Bangladeshis made the event lively. At the end of the programme, the organisers expressed heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the guests, members of the expatriate Bangladeshi community and the embassy's officials and staff.

The celebration reaffirmed the importance of raising awareness of Bangladesh's national history, embracing patriotism and the spirit of solidarity, and passing the country's history, heritage and national values on to the new generation abroad.
