Woman stabbed to death in Dakshin Khan amid clash among drug dealers

Staff Reporter

A woman named Sufia Khatun was allegedly stabbed to death in Dakshin Khan in the capital.

Police said she was stabbed during a quarrel and fight late on Saturday night in the 8 No. Railgate area, near Joynal Market in Dakshin Khan.

Police said everyone involved in the incident knew each other. Some of them are drug sellers and some are drug users. Although the details of the killing are not yet known, it is suspected that the murder may have happened over drugs.

People nearby rescued the injured Sufia immediately after the incident and took her to Kuwait Maitree Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

On Sunday (8 November), Md Karim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Dakshin Khan Police Station, confirmed the incident and said a quarrel broke out on Saturday night between drug sellers and users in the 8 No. Railgate area.

The quarrel turned into a fight at one stage, the OC said. Sufia was stabbed during the fight, and she died after being taken to hospital.

He also said the people at the scene knew each other. Preliminary information suggests the victim Sufia was also involved in selling drugs.

Police said the killing may have happened over drugs, but the matter is being investigated. The body has been sent to the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Police said efforts are under way to identify those involved in the incident.
