Bangladeshi workers are getting the chance to work in Malaysia at zero migration cost. In a lottery, 300 candidates have been shortlisted initially. From among them, the Malaysian company DHL Supply Chain Malaysia will finally recruit 112 workers after practical and oral tests.

The lottery was held on Sunday (8 November) at the Probashi Milanayatan of Probashi Kalyan Bhaban in the capital, in the presence of ministry representatives, officials of Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited (BOESL) and journalists.

The lottery was conducted electronically from applications submitted online between 6 November and 4 pm on 8 November. A total of 4,029 candidates applied.

Of the 300 shortlisted initially, 200 are for the post of operations assistant and 100 for technical skill workers. The list of selected candidates will soon be published on BOESL's website and Facebook page.

Representatives of the recruiting company, DHL Supply Chain, will conduct practical and oral tests for the shortlisted candidates. The 112 workers who finally pass will be sent to Malaysia with no migration cost.

Speaking at the event, Ahmadul Haque, acting secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, said that under the current government's election commitment, there is a target to send one crore workers abroad in the next five years. Such initiatives will help achieve that goal.

He said the minister's declared promise of sending workers at zero migration cost is also being implemented.

Mohammad Rashedul Haque, managing director of BOESL, said this is the first time qualified and skilled workers have been selected through a lottery for sending workers to Malaysia under government management. This sends a message of ensuring transparency and neutrality in BOESL's recruitment process.

In reply to journalists' questions, Mohammad Rashedul Haque said flights to send the selected workers to Malaysia will begin from the first week of December.

BOESL has also received demand letters for 558 more workers in tourism, production and caregiving. Employers will bear all costs for these workers, including medical tests and airfare, so they too will get the chance to go to Malaysia with no migration cost.

Md Asaduzzaman, director general of the Wage Earners' Welfare Board, Nurun Nahar, joint secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, and officials of the ministry and BOESL were present at the event.

After the list of selected candidates is published, DHL Supply Chain representatives will take the practical and oral tests. Flights for those who finally pass will begin from the first week of December.
