CNG Driver Killed in Sylhet in Dispute Over Queue Order, Three Arrested

Staff Reporter • Reading time: 1 min

A CNG auto-rickshaw driver has been killed in Sylhet following a dispute over queue order, and police have arrested three people in connection with the killing.

The dispute reportedly began over the serial, or turn order, for picking up passengers. Arguments among drivers over who takes passengers first are common at CNG stands, but this time the quarrel escalated into a fatal attack.

Police conducted raids after the incident and arrested three suspects. The arrested men are being interrogated, officials said.

The victim's body has been sent to a hospital morgue for autopsy, and the process of filing a case over the incident is under way.

The killing has sparked anger and anxiety among local drivers. There have long been complaints about the lack of discipline in the queue system at CNG stands, and drivers say minor disputes often turn into major clashes.

Police said drives are continuing to identify and arrest others involved in the incident. The real motive and the roles of those involved will become clear once the investigation is complete.

CNG-run auto-rickshaws make up a large share of public transport in Sylhet city, and disputes over the stand-based queue system have led to violence in the past as well.

The incident has caused a stir in the area, and the victim's family members have demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible.
