Missing auto-rickshaw driver's body found in Karatoya river in Sherpur three days on

Police have recovered the body of an auto-rickshaw driver, Md Asadul, 28, from the Karatoya river in Sherpur, Bogura, three days after he went missing. Police suspect he was killed by having his throat cut and that the body was then dumped in the river.
The body was recovered on Tuesday afternoon from the eastern bank of the river at Krishnapur Namapara in the upazila's Shah Bandegi Union.
Asadul was a resident of Kafura village in the upazila's Garidah Union. As the body was partially decomposed and the face disfigured, he could not be identified at first. Relatives later went to the spot and identified him.
According to police and local sources, Asadul went missing after leaving home on Saturday afternoon with his battery-run auto-rickshaw. Family members searched in various places but found no trace of him.
The next day, Sunday, Asadul's mother filed a general diary (GD) at Sherpur Police Station. That same day, Asadul's auto-rickshaw was found in the Raipur area of Sadar upazila, but its battery was missing, which deepened the family's anxiety over his disappearance.
On Tuesday afternoon, several boys playing on the bank of the Karatoya river spotted the body and informed local people. On receiving the news, Sherpur police went to the spot and recovered the body.
Sherpur Police Station sub-inspector (SI) Jahidul Islam said it is suspected that Asadul was murdered and his body dumped in the river.
The police station's inspector (investigation), Joynul Abedin, said efforts are under way to identify those involved in the killing.
