A tailor named Alif Ahmed (55) has been killed by a rod blow following an argument over Tk 90 owed in Barlekha, Moulvibazar. The incident took place on Tuesday evening in the Saypur area of the upazila. The accused shopkeeper, Imam Uddin, has been on the run since the incident.

The deceased Alif Ahmed was the son of the late Wasi Ali of Atua village in the upazila. He had a tailoring shop in the Saypur area.

Local sources said Imam Uddin, the shopkeeper next to Alif's shop, owed him Tk 90. The two had an argument over this money on Tuesday afternoon.

In the evening, when Alif was returning after paying money, Imam struck him with a rod. He fell to the ground. Local people later rescued him and took him to a doctor, who declared him dead.

At 8pm on Tuesday, Inspector Iskandar Habibur Rahman, in-charge of the Shahbazpur Police Investigation Centre, said a tailor had died from a rod blow by a shopkeeper following an argument over owed money. The accused fled after the incident, and efforts are under way to arrest him.

Barlekha police station officer-in-charge (OC) Moniruzzaman Khan said no complaint has yet been made by the deceased's family. Legal action will be taken if a complaint is received.
