Bangladesh Lose 13-0 to India in Champions Trophy Hockey in Jalandhar
Bangladesh's start in the Champions Trophy hockey was not good at all. They lost 13-0 to hosts India in Jalandhar, India.
Last month, too, the red-and-green side lost heavily to India, 10-0, at the Asian Games in Japan. Bangladesh have now conceded a total of 23 goals to India in two matches within a month.
Bangladesh conceded four goals in the first quarter of the match. India scored two more in the second quarter to go into the break leading 6-0. India added three more goals in the third quarter, and four more came in the final quarter. Bangladesh left the field with a 13-goal defeat.
India are a very strong hockey team, yet Bangladesh have fought against them in the past. Disappointed by the manner of this performance, former hockey player and former federation member Tarek Adel wrote on social media: 'When will we learn to say that we too are Bangladesh, and we will not give up without a fight.'
Six Asian teams are playing in the Champions Trophy. Bangladesh finished seventh at the Asian Games. Bangladesh got the chance to play in the Champions Trophy because Pakistan did not travel to India to play.
German coach Gerhard Peter went to the Asian Games with the target of finishing sixth and failed to achieve it, but the federation has kept its faith in him for the Champions Trophy.
