Ahead of the upcoming local government elections, the Election Commission (EC) has appointed 150 revising authorities to correct errors in the draft voter list and settle claims and objections. The work will begin after the draft voter list is published on 5 November.

In a notification signed on Tuesday (27 October) by EC Joint Secretary Md Abdul Halim Khan, the officers were appointed across the 64 districts and cantonment areas. The notification states their designations and assigned jurisdictions.

Under Section 11 of the Voter List Act, 2009, the voter list will be updated and finalised including, among persons born on or before 31 October 2008, those registered in the database or eligible for registration up to 31 October 2026.

The revising authorities have been appointed to settle applications for inclusion claims, objections and information corrections in the draft list. Such applications must be submitted respectively on Form-6, Form-7 and Form-8.

Under the EC's timetable, the draft voter list will be published on 5 November. The last date for submitting claims, objections and correction applications is 20 November.

Those applications must be disposed of by 23 November. The last date for incorporating the decisions taken on the applications into the list is 24 November.

The updated final voter list will be published on 25 November. According to the latest updated figures, the country has a total of 128,777,643 voters.
