Masud Rana, who faced criticism in Naogaon after marrying his own sister-in-law while his marriage to his first wife remained in place, has apologised on Facebook Live. On Tuesday night, 27 October, he admitted his mistake on the live broadcast and at the same time announced that he would divorce his second wife.

Masud Rana is a resident of Naogaon Sadar Upazila. The report said he makes TikTok videos and worked as an assistant to a lawyer.

According to local residents, Masud Rana lived with his first wife in a rented house in Bairagipara, in Sadar Union of Badalgachhi Upazila. On 25 October he married his first wife's younger sister.

After the marriage, when photos and videos with his two wives were published on social media, the matter spread. Discussion and criticism began across the country. In the meantime, they were reportedly asked to leave their rented house in Badalgachhi Upazila Sadar.

Masud Rana had earlier claimed that he married his sister-in-law with his first wife's consent and cooperation. His account was that if his sister-in-law married elsewhere, he could face harassment over some TikTok videos they had recorded earlier, and that this fear led him to take the decision.

Following the incident, tension arose on Monday night, 26 October, in Mataji Narayanpur village in Mahadevpur Upazila. Citing local sources, the report said angry local people smeared lime and black on the young man and his two wives, put garlands of shoes around their necks and forced them to leave the area. Video of the incident spread on social media.

On Facebook Live, Masud Rana said marrying his own sister-in-law while keeping his first wife was his biggest mistake. He claimed he took the decision out of ignorance about the matter.

On the live broadcast he said, 'I will now live my life as society and the situation want. I will divorce the sister-in-law whom I married.' At the same time he requested that the spread of their photos and videos on social media be stopped.

Masud Rana also said on the live broadcast that the matter is prohibited in Islam, and that if they had known this earlier, they would not have taken such a decision.
