A court has sentenced two defendants to death in the murder case of 12-year-old Talha Molla, known as Muhin, of Chandradighlia village in Gopalganj Sadar upazila. Judge Mohammad Morshed Alam of the Gopalganj Child Abuse Suppression Tribunal and District and Sessions Judge Court delivered the verdict at noon on Wednesday.

The men sentenced to death are Amin Uddin and Shihab Molla. In the same case, Md Shaon Molla was sentenced to life imprisonment. Each was also fined Tk 50,000, with one more year in prison in default.

Md Liaquat Ali Molla, known as Liku, was acquitted as the charge against him was not proved. The death-row defendants were present in court when the verdict was announced, but Shaon Molla, who received life imprisonment, remains absconding.

State lawyer Toufiqul Islam confirmed the verdict. He said the ruling is important in a grave crime such as the murder of a 12-year-old child, and that the victim's family has received justice through it. Proper enforcement of the law will help curb crime and send a positive message for establishing justice in society, he added.

According to the case details, Muhin was the son of Manjurul Islam of Chandradighlia village in Gopalganj Sadar upazila. On February 22, 2025, he went missing while going to watch fishing. Family members searched in various places but could not find him.

On the night of February 24, 2025, Muhin's body was recovered from a trunk kept in the room of Manjurul Islam's tenant Amin Uddin. Manjurul Islam filed a case against four people on February 23, 2025, over the incident.

The victim's father and plaintiff, Manjurul Islam, said they had long waited for justice in the case and that he is satisfied with the verdict. He said he has received justice as those who killed his son received the maximum punishment, and he demanded that the verdict be carried out quickly.

Defence lawyer M Julkadar Rahman said he will appeal against the verdict in the higher court.
