Coast Guard Medical Team Races by Speedboat to Treat Seriously Ill Passenger on a Launch After a 16111 Call

Staff Reporter

After a call to the national emergency service number 16111, the Bangladesh Coast Guard gave emergency medical assistance to a seriously ill passenger aboard a passenger launch in mid-river. A special medical team from Coast Guard Station Pagla responded quickly, reaching the moving launch to carry out the rescue and treatment operation.

Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan confirmed the information in a press release sent to the media on Wednesday afternoon (28 October).

According to the release, on 27 October a man had set out from Bhola for Dhaka aboard the launch 'MV Farhan-09' for advanced treatment. When the launch reached the area near Muktarpur Bridge in Munshiganj last night, the patient's physical condition suddenly deteriorated seriously.

At that time, another passenger on the launch immediately called the Coast Guard's emergency service number, 16111, and sought urgent assistance.

As soon as the news arrived, a medical team from Coast Guard Station Pagla set out by speedboat and reached the moving launch in mid-river. There they gave the ill passenger first aid and the necessary emergency support.

After the patient's condition improved with first aid, he was brought quickly by the Coast Guard's own boat to Sadarghat launch terminal for advanced treatment. Later, under the Coast Guard's own supervision and management, the patient was admitted by a private ambulance to the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Agargaon.

Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan said: 'The Bangladesh Coast Guard is always engaged in any danger faced by the people of the country and in public service, and this humanitarian work and its continuity will continue in the future as well.'
