A father and his four-year-old son, who were standing by the road, were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in the Keodhala bus stand area of Bandar upazila on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway. Three other people who were with them were seriously injured in the incident.

The accident took place at around 4:30am on Wednesday (28 October). Mohammad Jewel Mia, officer-in-charge of Kanchpur Highway Police, confirmed the incident.

The dead are Shafikul Islam (35) and his son Bipul Sarkar (4). Shafikul Islam is the son of Sirajul Sardar of Katihara Madhyapara village in Ward 6 of Gaibandha Sadar upazila.

At the time of the incident, Shafikul Islam was waiting by the road with his family to cross the highway, holding his four-year-old son Bipul in his lap. At that time, a cement-laden truck collided head-on with a bus of Soma Paribahan and they were caught in the accident. The father and son died on the spot.

Shafikul's wife, one daughter and one son were seriously injured in the incident. They were admitted to Sonargaon Upazila Health Complex.

The accident happened while they were waiting with the family to cross the highway in the Kanchpur area at dawn. He also said the condition of the injured was critical.
