Dhaka Customs House has seized 12 kilograms of gold paste from two women passengers who arrived from Dubai at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. The seized gold has an estimated market value of 24 crore taka.

The two passengers, who arrived on a flight from Dubai, were detained at about 5:15pm on Wednesday (October 28). Dhaka Customs House disclosed the information in a press release on Wednesday night.

According to the release, the two women passengers, named Chen Liun and Mo Xiaoyu, were searched after they completed immigration procedures and reached the luggage belt area. Soft yellow-coloured gold paste was found hidden inside their jeans and undergarments, sewn in with cloth.

The gold paste was then seized. Its total weight was 12 kilograms. Initial testing confirmed the seized gold to be 24 carats in purity.

Dhaka Customs House said proceedings for a case over the seized gold and the two detained women passengers are under way.
