Controversy over Viral Video of MP Abdul Aziz: Upazila BNP Calls It AI-Made, District BNP Opens Investigation

A controversy has erupted after a video showing an intimate moment of Abdul Aziz, the member of parliament for Natore-4 and a joint convener of the district BNP, spread on social media. The Gurudaspur upazila BNP has claimed the video was created with artificial intelligence (AI). The Natore district BNP, however, has formed an investigation committee to verify the video's authenticity.
The video began spreading on various social media platforms, including Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, from Wednesday morning (October 28). Later in the afternoon, the Gurudaspur upazila BNP held a press conference and claimed the video was fake.
At the press conference, held at the party office in the Nayabazar area of Dharabarisha union, former upazila BNP organising secretary Mohammad Ali read out a written statement. He also said preparations are under way to file a case under the information technology law against those involved in spreading the video.
Meanwhile, Natore district BNP member secretary Asaduzzaman Asad said the video has come to their attention and an investigation is under way to verify its authenticity. He said an emergency meeting of the district BNP will be held on Friday (October 30) on the matter. If the video is proven genuine, organisational action will be taken in accordance with the party constitution.
No statement, however, has been obtained from MP Abdul Aziz on the matter.
The roughly nine-minute video allegedly shows a man resembling Abdul Aziz engaged in an intimate conversation with a woman over a video call.
Earlier, Abdul Aziz's elder son Nuruzzaman Mintu was detained on Monday in the case over the hacking to death of Shakil, member secretary of the Gurudaspur municipal unit of Chhatra Dal. On Tuesday, he was shown arrested and produced before a court, which granted a three-day remand. The video of MP Abdul Aziz spread on social media the very next day.
