Very severe cyclonic storm Arnab made landfall in India's Andhra Pradesh early on Wednesday. After crossing the coast it has weakened into a land depression, but its remnants may still bring rain to coastal and other parts of Bangladesh on Thursday, the Meteorological Department has said.

In its 7 am forecast, the Met Department's storm warning centre said that between 5 am and 1 pm today, the regions of Jashore, Kushtia, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Chattogram and Cox's Bazar may see rain or thundershowers.

According to the forecast, temporary gusty or squally winds of 45 to 60 kilometres per hour may blow over those regions from the south or southeast. River ports in those areas have been asked to hoist cautionary signal No. 1.

Under the cyclone's influence, deep convection is forming over the north Bay of Bengal, and gusty or squally winds may sweep over the country's sea ports, the north Bay and the adjoining coastal areas. The sea ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have therefore been asked to keep hoisting local cautionary signal No. 3.

The sky over the capital Dhaka has been cloudy since early morning. In its 7 am six-hour forecast, the Met Department said the sky over Dhaka and nearby areas may remain partly cloudy to cloudy, with light rain or thundershowers possible.

Winds in Dhaka during this period may blow from the south or southeast at 10 to 15 kilometres per hour, and the day temperature may fall slightly, the forecast added.

The temperature in Dhaka at 6 am today was 26.6 degrees Celsius, with humidity at 85 percent. Dhaka recorded no rain in the past 24 hours. Sunset in Dhaka today is at 5:21 pm and sunrise tomorrow at 6:03 am.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), winds at the centre of very severe cyclonic storm Arnab reached 125 to 135 kilometres per hour, gusting to 150 kilometres per hour.
