Nilsagar Express derails at Mohera in Tangail, cutting train links with northern Bangladesh

The Nilsagar Express train has derailed in the Mohera station area of Mirzapur upazila in Tangail. Following the incident, train communication between northern Bangladesh and the rest of the country has been suspended.
The accident happened at 8:50am on Thursday, October 29, in the Mohera station area.
Railway authorities and local people said that when the Nilsagar Express, which had left Dhaka for Chilahati, reached the Mohera railway station area, a wheel of a rear carriage derailed.
After derailing, the train dragged the derailed carriage for about one kilometre. The railway line's block point was damaged in the process.
Railway authorities and local people said that besides damage to a coach, sleepers were broken and the railway line was bent in the accident.
Because of the accident, multiple trains have been stranded at different stations and train passengers have suffered disruption.
Rescue work on the derailed train has begun. Habibur Rahman, traffic inspector of the Pakshi division, said a rescue train from Ishwardi had reached the scene.
Habibur Rahman said train services would return to normal after the derailed carriage is recovered and the damaged railway line is repaired. A four-member investigation committee has also been formed over the incident, he said.
