Islamic University in Kushtia has taken an initiative to build a complete database to track how many of its students obtain jobs each year in government and private institutions.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A K M Matinur Rahman announced the initiative on Wednesday (28 October) while speaking as chief guest at a workshop titled 'Industry-Academia Collaboration: Islamic University Bangladesh Perspective', held in the conference room of the university's Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC).

The workshop, moderated by IQAC Director Professor Dr Muhammad Nazimuddin, was attended by Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Emtaz Hossain and Treasurer Professor Dr Md Idris Ali as special guests, along with deans of faculties, heads of departments and teachers.

Professor Rahman said employment information on Islamic University students at the Public Service Commission and other government and private institutions would be collected to build the database.

He said once the database is created, it will be possible to understand whether the year-by-year employment rate is rising, and to present a true picture of graduate employment.

Emphasising work-oriented education, the vice-chancellor said one of the university's main responsibilities is to produce skilled manpower, and that students must receive practical education suited to current job-market demand rather than theoretical education alone.

He also said a 'Job Corner' has been launched at the university's central library as part of various initiatives to increase Islamic University students' participation in the civil service.
