Housewife Barsha dies in Dhaka's Monipuripara after tearful video call to her father; husband arrested over dowry allegation

The body of a housewife named Jumratun Nesa Barsha, 24, has been recovered in Monipuripara in the capital. Her family alleges that she died mysteriously after making a video call to her father while being tortured by her husband.
Tejgaon Zone Deputy Police Commissioner Md Ibne Mizan gave this information on Thursday morning (29 October). He said police have arrested the victim's husband in the incident.
According to police, Barsha's body was recovered on Tuesday midnight from a house in Monipuripara under Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station in Dhaka.
Barsha and her husband married for love about a year ago. However, family conflict had been going on between them for various reasons since the marriage. Barsha was allegedly being tortured continuously.
At around 12am on the night of the incident, Barsha video-called her father Sheikh Monowar Hossain. Crying, she told him she was being tortured and asked to be rescued quickly from that house and taken to her father's home.
During the video call, Barsha expressed fear that she might be killed if she was not taken away quickly. At one point in the conversation, the video call was suddenly disconnected.
Worried, Barsha's parents immediately set out for their daughter's house. When they arrived there at around 12:30am, they saw an ambulance standing in front of the house.
Barsha was rescued unconscious and taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared her dead.
Deputy Police Commissioner Md Ibne Mizan said Barsha's family has claimed this was a planned murder and that she was tortured out of greed for dowry.
Based on the complaint, Tejgaon Police Station took prompt action and arrested the accused husband. Police have started an investigation to uncover the real cause of the incident and to confirm whether it was murder or suicide.
