The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) raided the Kaliganj sub-registry office in Jhenaidah and caught a man named Rakib Hossain red-handed with Tk 4,300 in bribe money. A mobile court later fined him Tk 200.

Members of the ACC's Jhenaidah integrated district office carried out the raid at around 11:30am on Thursday (October 29), acting on secret information.

According to ACC sources, Rakib was caught red-handed with Tk 4,300 while taking bribes from people who had come to register land, at the stage of taking thumbprints. At the time, he could not show any papers relating to his appointment.

Kaliganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Rezwana Nahid later went to the spot and conducted a mobile court. The detained Rakib was fined Tk 200.

ACC Assistant Director Khalid Mahmud said the raid on the Kaliganj sub-registry office was carried out on the basis of secret information. A man named Rakib was caught red-handed with the bribe money, and he could not show any papers relating to his appointment.

Khalid Mahmud also said the sub-registrar has been asked to take necessary steps to remove three people working as omedars at the Kaliganj sub-registry office — Rakib, Shakil and Anjali — from the office.
