Police have recovered the body of a youth named Nure Alam Kagzi (31) in Rajapur upazila of Jhalakathi. He is initially believed to have been hacked and beaten to death.

Nure Alam's body was recovered late on Wednesday night (October 28) from the Katbeltola area of Dakshin Kathipara in Shuktagarh Union of the upazila.

The deceased, Nure Alam Kagzi, was the son of Afsar Ali Kagzi of the Naikathi area of Saturia Union.

On Thursday morning, senior police officers as well as members of the CID visited the scene. Police went to the spot after being informed by locals and recovered the body.

According to police and local sources, it is initially believed that assailants beat Nure Alam at some point during the night, broke his hands and legs and left him there. However, who carried out the attack and why has not been confirmed.

A local source said Zakir lived in a rented house owned by a man named Kamrul in Narikelbaria with his wife Moyna. Nure Alam was reported to have had a relationship with Moyna. Posing as Moyna's uncle, Nure Alam often spent nights at that house. On Wednesday afternoon, he had a scuffle with local people over the matter.

Moyna said that around 3am on Wednesday night, a masked group of seven to eight people, brandishing a chapati, took Nure Alam away from their rented house. She does not know what happened to him after that.

Local resident Md Mojibur Rahman Hawlader said that around 6am on Thursday, leaving his home, he saw a young man lying naked and injured on the road. The youth introduced himself as a resident of Saturia and said he had a wife and child. He also claimed that a man named Shahjahan had brought him there and left him in that condition. But no one came forward despite his pleas.

The local resident also said the youth asked him for water. When he went to call local people to help and returned, he found the youth had fallen into the drain water beside the road.

Rajapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sujan Biswas said preparations were under way to send the body to the morgue of Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital for autopsy. An investigation is under way to uncover the mystery of the incident, and legal action will be taken after identifying those involved.
