Bangladesh wants to expand education cooperation with China's Hubei province in areas including student exchanges, teacher training and joint research. To that end, the Education Ministry has proposed that the two sides sign a Record of Notes to formulate and implement a joint action plan.

Senior Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division, Abdul Khaleque, made the proposal on Thursday at a meeting with China's Hubei Provincial Department of Education. The information was given in a press release from the Education Ministry.

The Bangladesh delegation was led by Senior Secretary Abdul Khaleque and included Farhan Ishtiaq, private secretary to the Education Minister. The Hubei delegation was led by Duan Juhui, Deputy Director General of the Provincial Department of Education.

According to the release, Duan Juhui said at the meeting that Hubei has notable capacity in primary, secondary, higher, and technical and vocational education. At present, 730 Bangladeshi students are studying at various educational institutions in the province.

Duan Juhui said Hubei is eager to welcome more students, teachers, researchers and education-related personnel from Bangladesh. The province wants to deepen education cooperation with Bangladesh through student exchanges, teacher training, joint research and institutional partnerships.

At the meeting, Senior Secretary Abdul Khaleque presented the development priorities of Bangladesh's education sector. He said the two sides should sign a Record of Notes to accelerate the next steps of cooperation and implement the joint action plan.

Duan Juhui emphasised expanding student exchange and teacher training programmes and admitting more Bangladeshi students to Hubei's educational institutions.

He also formally invited representatives and institutions from Hubei to visit Bangladesh to strengthen future dialogue and cooperation.

The meeting discussed various practical ways to advance student exchanges, teacher capacity building and joint academic projects between Bangladesh and Hubei province. Both sides agreed to move cooperation forward in these areas.
