Three candidates have lost their deposits in the Thakurgaon-1 (Sadar) by-election. None of them managed to secure even one-eighth of the votes cast.

The candidates who lost their deposits are Md Khademul Islam of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Md Abdul Alim Nizami of Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan, and Hossain Muhammad Omar Faruk of Bangladesh Congress.

According to the results, Md Khademul Islam of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, contesting with the hand-fan symbol, received 3,289 votes. Md Abdul Alim Nizami of Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan, with the banyan tree symbol, received 836 votes. Hossain Muhammad Omar Faruk of Bangladesh Congress, with the green coconut symbol, received just 450 votes.

In the by-election, BNP candidate Mirza Faisal Amin won with 227,917 votes under the sheaf-of-paddy symbol. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Delawar Hossain finished second with 96,513 votes under the scales symbol.

After voting ended on Thursday, October 29, Returning Officer and District Election Officer Md Kamrul Islam announced the results for all 185 centres at the Thakurgaon District Shilpakala Academy hall. The vote figures for the candidates come from the preliminary unofficial result sheet signed by him.

According to that signed result sheet, a total of 334,330 votes were cast in the constituency, of which 329,005 were valid. One-eighth of the votes cast comes to about 41,791. None of the three candidates who lost their deposits came anywhere near that threshold.

Under Election Commission rules, a candidate in a national parliamentary election forfeits their deposit if they fail to win one-eighth of the votes cast in the constituency. The condition was also mentioned in a circular the Commission issued on 13 December 2025 ahead of the 13th national parliamentary election.

According to the district election office, the Thakurgaon-1 constituency had a total of 516,138 voters — 257,475 men, 258,659 women, and four voters of the third gender.
