Dhaka Stresses Stronger Economic Ties and Alternative Financing Cooperation With Japan

Staff Reporter

Strengthening Bangladesh's economic relations with Japan and increasing cooperation in alternative financing were stressed at a meeting between the finance ministers of the two countries. The emphasis was placed at a meeting between Bangladesh's Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Japan's Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama and Assistant Finance Minister Mimura Atsushi.

The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere at the Japanese finance minister's office on Friday (October 30).

At the meeting, the long-standing traditional and strong economic relations between Bangladesh and Japan were recalled. Detailed discussions were held on various aspects of taking the bilateral and economic partnership of the two countries to a new height and deepening cooperation.

The discussion placed special emphasis on increasing economic cooperation through alternative financing mechanisms beyond foreign direct investment, alongside Bangladesh's infrastructure development and trade expansion.

Both sides agreed to take effective initiatives to make the existing economic relationship more dynamic and to work together in new and emerging sectors.

The meeting was attended by the prime minister's special assistant for investment and capital markets, Tanvir Gani, the prime minister's special assistant for employment in the Asia-Pacific region, Shakirul Islam Khan, and senior officials of both countries.

Japan is one of Bangladesh's main development partners. With Japanese financing, many large infrastructure and social development works have been carried out in Bangladesh in the past, and important projects are currently being implemented and new agreements are being signed.
