Pope Leo XIV Becomes First Pope in History to Vote in a US Election

Pope Leo XIV has become the first pope in history to vote in a US election. The Vatican confirmed the matter on Friday.
According to the Vatican, the Chicago-born pontiff submitted a mail-in ballot in Chicago ahead of November's midterm elections.
Leo was formerly known as Robert Prevost. The Vatican cited his long-standing belief in civic participation in announcing the vote.
The Holy See press office said he has exercised his right to vote as a United States citizen and has done so whenever he was eligible to do so.
The statement also said he had voted while living in Peru whenever he was eligible.
The Holy See said the Pope expresses his belief in the right and the duty of citizens to participate in democratic processes.
