A Rohingya youth named Md Ayas (22) has been killed in a clash between two armed groups over dominance at a Rohingya shelter camp in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar. Another youth named Syed Mohammad (24) was seriously injured in the incident. Both are reported to be members of the Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO).

The incident took place at around 1 am on Thursday night in blocks D-3 and D-7 of shelter camp No. 15 in Ukhiya. Ahsan Khan, additional superintendent of police of the 8 Armed Police Battalion and the officer in charge of its media wing, confirmed the matter.

Ahsan Khan said the clash began at night following a dispute between members of the RSO and members of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), an armed group active in Myanmar. At one stage, ARSA members took Ayas and Syed Mohammad away and beat them. Ayas died on the spot.

Seriously injured Syed Mohammad has been admitted to the MSF hospital adjacent to the camp.

Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Atikur Rahman Mojumdar said Ayas's body was handed over to his relatives after an autopsy. A murder case has been filed against 17 people over the incident.
